What is the Yoga Tune Up® At Home Program?
The Yoga Tune Up? At Home Program is a series of Yoga Tune Up? based workouts that are delivered to your doorstep each month on DVD. For more on Yoga tune Up? at home, go here. -
How often do I practice?
Practice 3 times per week at minimum, up to 6 times per week. You can also practice your At Home Program routines once in the morning and once at night to start and end your day feeling balanced. Therapy Ball routines can be practiced daily. -
My Poses don't look exactly like yours, am I doing it wrong?
Every person's practice is impacted by their own indigenous structure. Flexibility is a function of healthy muscles and connective tissues in addition to the amount of movement one experiences at the joints. Because of our genetic dispositions, all of our bones and joint space differ from person to person. It is more important to pay attention to what you are feeling as opposed to what a pose looks like. For pose specific information, you can always ask questions in the Forums or on Teleconferences as that is a key purpose of those support functions. -
I don't really feel anything in any of the exercises, how do I know if I?m doing them right?
You may need to put a little more effort into both the stretch and strength components in every pose. Take your time as you practice so that you can discover where your end ranges of motion are and try to create stability at these end ranges. You can also ask questions about your poses and practice in the Forums or on Teleconferences. You may also want to consider purchasing a personal consultation with one of our Yoga Tune Up? Trainers (see products page for details) to go over specific exercises/issues. -
I always fall asleep in Savasana, is that OK?
Absolutely. When you first begin practicing, sometimes you can become so exhausted that your body may need to just "let go" and fall asleep. When you first begin practicing, the body is often not able to distinguish the difference between deep conscious relaxation (Savasana) and sleeping. Practicing Savasana often will eventually teach your body how to better enter states of sedation and meditation without falling asleep. This is great conditioning for your nervous system and your general state of.

My At Home Program is too difficult; can I move down a level?
Presently, you will need to contact us through the "Contact Us" page and let us know your request. In the future, you will be able to do this through your 'User Dashboard' after you have logged in. Click on 'User Dashboard', then on 'My Profile' and then click on 'At Home Program Manager'. From there you can notify us to move you up to the next level. We highly recommend though that you go through at least the first two month's of the level you have been assigned. The programs do progress from month to month so while your first month might seem a bit 'easy', there are reasons for that in terms of getting your body used to moving a certain way and prepping areas of your body for different poses. Please give the process some time before requesting a change.
-

This information is not stored on the Yoga Tune Up website but is sent directly to the secure Payment Gateway Authorize.net.
-
Are the videos appropriate during pregnancy?
Not all of the videos are appropriate during pregnancy. We highly recommend that you consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program while pregnant. Next we suggest that you consider beginning your program as part of your post-partum recovery. Please check back for our Prenatal Yoga Tune Up? series coming soon! -
Should I do my videos before or after cardio exercise?
If you do cardio exercises as part of your exercise regime, you should do your cardio exercise before your practices. Yoga Tune Up? is especially effective when your body is nice and hot. However, doing repetitive cardio right after you do your routines may undo all of the loosening and lengthening that your series has provided. You do not need to do cardio before doing your practice as your Yoga Tune Up? At Home practice is a complete practice into itself, although we do recommend you include cardio as part of your overall health and fitness regimen. -
My doctor said I should start practicing yoga, is this the kind he meant?
Possibly. You should consult with your physician to find out exactly what he meant before you start any physical exercise program. Many doctors, Physical Therapists, Chiropractors and other health care professionals strongly endorse the proven therapeutic techniques in Yoga Tune Up?. -
I have a pre-existing medical condition, is it ok to do Yoga Tune Up®?
If you have ANY pre-existing medical conditions, you should discuss your specific condition with your doctor PRIOR to doing any exercise program, including Yoga Tune Up?.
-
How often should I do a Micro Region routine?
Micro-Region routines are designed to be both a therapeutic sequence when you are having issues with an area, or conversely, it can be used as a preventative to avoid issues in the target area. So the routines are for both healthy bodies and those with complaints. Either way, they should be practiced at least 3 times per week, with a maximum of six times per week. Think of the micro-regions like flossing your teeth, each area of your body needs as much attention as each nook and cranny of your teeth. When you go without flossing, your gums are sure to bleed; go without your micro-region routines and you are neglecting an important part of a healthy maintenance routine.
-
How often should I do a Tune Up Therapy Ball Routine?
Ideally the ball routines are done once per and you should rotate the areas. It is not recommended to do any one area more than twice a day (once in the morning, and once in the evening.) These are very powerful and specific, so the time in between your ball-o-ssage is valuable time for your tissues to adapt to their new length and the abundant circulation that comes from the routines. You can definitely "overdo it" with the balls, and may end up bruising, over- stretching or irritating yourself from going too hard, too deep, or too much.
-
How do I know if I have the balls in the right spots?
There is a visual guide included with each of the routines to assist you with placement. If you are still having trouble, you can ask your specific question in the "Therapy Ball Forum" (if you find that it's not already answered in there of course). And for more detailed guidance join us on a monthly "Teleconferences" where one of our skilled Yoga Tune Up® Teachers can answer more specific questions about ball placement and your specific issue.
-
My Therapy balls take such good care of me, how should I take care of the balls?
The rubber within the balls is made of a special compound and is very sensitive to direct sunlight and will dry out over time if not kept out of direct light. When not in use, we recommend you store your Therapy Balls in a dark place such as a drawer or closet.
-
Is it best to use the Therapy Balls before or after I do my Yoga Tune Up Practice?
It can be very helpful to use the balls before practice as they quickly increase circulation in tissues that may be stagnant, knotty, and uncooperative. Once the balls have worked their magic of gripping at your skin, grabbing at clumpy layers of fascia and muscle, and rubbing you out like pizza dough, you will be able to experience all of your Yoga Tune Up® exercises more deeply and directly. Often, just doing poses is not enough, we need to actually address the physical barriers within our tissue to get fresh blood and nutrients circulating and saturating our tissues so they they will function optimally when we do exercise.
On the flip side...it feels fantastic to "punctuate" the end of a practice session with the relaxation you get from using the balls. Using the balls after you practice assures that every last nook and cranny of your body is buzzing and contacted from inside out.
So really it's up to you. ROLL ON!

How does Yoga Tune Up® heal aches and pains?
answer not available. -
Why do I sometimes start to feel new aches and pains in my body when doing Yoga Tune Up®?
Unused tissues often provide pain signals as their first layer of resistance towards change. Be persistent and the pain will diminish over time. You may also be sore after the first initial practices as your body is learning to adapt to the new healthy stresses being placed on it by your routines. Technically this is called "adaptation." If you are not used to exercising in this way, your body has already adapted to another way of existing, give this practice time so that you adapt and evolve into new, healthier living patterns! However, if the pain continues, we recommend you see your doctor to be sure there is not an underlying issue. -
What happens if my limb goes numb during a stretch?
Typically, there is no reason to be alarmed, simply back off of the stretch and allow the circulation of nerve impulses to flood back into the tissues. Numbness occurs when the neural fascia surrounding a nerve is overstretched and begins to act like a suture around the nerve. This can stop the consistent flow of nerve impulses flowing through the nerve and the area associated with that nerve will lose sensation. It's as if the affected nerve was being strangled by its own connective tissue's sheath. However, if the numbness continues, we recommend you see your doctor to be sure there is not an underlying issue. -
What's the difference between good pain and bad pain?
Good pain is a "comfortable level of discomfort." This means going to a perceived end range within your body, without pushing beyond that edge. Generally our elastic connective tissues need some time and more heat to build up before they will yield to the deeper stretch and, ultimately, to a new end range. If you push beyond that edge too quickly, it is likely you may tear something. This may feel like searing heat or perhaps an internal electrical explosion. This is an important signal to stop what you are doing and immediately apply ice.
-
What do I get from the training?
Along with advanced training on biomechanics and physiology, once successfully passing the final exam/audition, you will be certified at the level of training you are taking. This provides you with the ability to teach your own Yoga Tune Up® classes. Each level of training provides very specific templates to jump start your own classes and workshops.
-
Are there any requirements for taking the Teacher Training Program?
Prospective trainees should have a basic understanding of Yoga poses, a sincere interest in the body and a long history of some form of physical practice (such as Yoga, Pilates, Dance, Martial Arts, Personal Training, etc.). Many students of the Teacher Training take the training to further enhance their knowledge of anatomy, physiology and body movement and not to teach Yoga Tune Up® and this is welcomed.
-
I have never done a Yoga teacher training, but have many years of Yoga experience, can I do the training?
Yes. While you may not qualify to teach a Yoga Tune Up® class, this training will deepen your understanding of the body, biomechanics and give you tools to step into the role of a teacher.
-
I teach other fitness formats, will I be eligible to teach Yoga Tune Up® classes?
To qualify fully for teaching, you will need to have advanced working knowledge of Yoga poses and their names. Your other modalities will be very helpful for your Yoga Tune Up® training and of course, for becoming a Yoga Tune Up® teacher. This training will also help expand your teaching skills for your other fitness formats.
-
Should I take this training before or after a full 200 hour certification program?
Prospective teachers find that they are much more prepared to teach Yoga Tune Up® if they are currently a certified Yoga teacher, or proficient at another format, be it Pilates, Nia, dance, or other fitness modalities. The training is geared towards teachers, but there are always some advanced/longtime students ready to take the plunge into teaching in these trainings. A 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training course is not a pre-requisite, although it can be helpful. We expect all applicants to have a sincere interest in the body, and a long history of physical practice. Finishing the training is not a guarantee that they will be able to teach, as trainees must also perform well during their final evaluation (teaching a class) and a written exam. If they do pass, and get certified as a Level 1 Yoga Tune Up® Teacher, they may absolutely go out and teach.
-
How long are the Trainings?
Depending on the level, trainings range from 20-40 hours each. -
Do I need to take the Level 1 training before moving on to Level 2 and 3?
Yes. Level 1 is a pre-requisite for the advanced levels of Yoga Tune Up® teacher training. Passing Level 1 will qualify you to begin teaching Yoga Tune Up® immediately.
-
What is the difference between the different levels of the trainings?
There are currently 4 modules to be a Yoga Tune Up® "Integrated" Teacher, the basic level of certification, the modules for the "Integrated" certificate, include a 40 hour Level 1 Training, which prepares teachers to teach 1 to 1.5 hour classes and privates; a 20 hour Level 2 Hips Immersion Training, which deepens anatomy studies, injury scenarios and prepares for workshop teaching; a 20 hour Level 3 Shoulders Immersion Training, which furthers anatomy studies, injury scenarios and prepares for workshop teaching; and another 20 hour Core Immersion module which is mostly experiential, focusing on developing a profoundly connected abdominal core both physically and emotionally. All teachers who complete this initial 100 hours of training are eligible to be considered for the Yoga Tune Up® Masters program which prepares them to teach teacher trainings and retreats.
In summary:
Yoga Tune Up® Integrated Certification (100 hours)
- Level 1- 40 hours (no prereq)
- Level 2 Hips Immersion -20 hours (prereq = Level 1)
- Level 3 Shoulders Immersion - 20 hours (prereq = Level 1)
- Core Immersion- 20 hours (no prereq)
Yoga Tune Up® Masters Certification for Teacher Trainers
- 200 formal assisting hours
- YTU Leadership Immersion 20 hours
-
Can I get Yoga Alliance Credits?
This training will get you between 20 and 40 continuing Education units depending on the length of the training. Jill Miller is an ERYT-200. -
Will I be able to teach Yoga Tune Up® classes and workshops immediately following the training?
You must pass an in-class evaluation and a post-training test. If you pass, you are eligible for licensing. Once you receive your license, you may begin teaching classes and privates. Level 2 and 3 permits you to teach specific Yoga Tune Up® Workshops. The licensing process can take as little as one week to one month, depending on your submission of the post-training test.
-
I would like to teach Tune It Up: Conscious Conditioning. Which training prepares me for that format?
Tune It Up: Conscious Conditioning teachers must all successfully complete the Level 1 training to qualify to teach. This format is appropriate for teachers who also have a background in cardio based group fitness classes, or for personal trainers. These teachers will be given a special manual and training video upon licensing and invited to special training seminars.
-
