Liz came to Hatha Yoga—by way of her meditation cushion.
When her Zen center offered yoga classes, she fell in love with the twisty, sweaty Hatha sequence created by Shri Swami Bua, disciple of Sivananda of Rishikesh.
Liz took her first Jivamukti Yoga class six years later—and found in it the perfect marriage of rigorous Hatha Yoga practice and Self-inquiry. Moved to teach after almost twenty-years of study, she graduated from the 300-hour Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training in May of 2005, completed the 800-hour Jivamukti Yoga Apprenticeship Program in 2006, and, in 2010, was awarded Advanced Certification by Jivamukti Yoga co-founders Shri Sharon Gannon and Shri David Life.
Liz wanted to better understand her students’ bodies and how she might empower their self-healing. She found Yoga Tune Up—the new, therapeutic modality created by master teacher, Jill Miller. In May, Jill certified Liz to teach her method, a certification held by only a handful of East Coast teachers.
Liz teaches vigorous vinyasa classes in the Jivamukti tradition that leave the body sweaty and the mind free—and adventurous Yoga Tune Up classes that systematically explore every micro-region of the body. Her Jivamukti classes include breath awareness, flowing vinyasa sequences, teachings from scripture and current events, and energizing, uplifting music. Liz's Yoga Tune Up classes incorporate movement from Hatha Yoga, calisthenics, body therapy and Pilates to systematically and intelligently prime each student’s body, mind and spirit. In both kinds of classes, Liz gives expert hands on adjustments, specific alignment instruction, and opportunities for meditation and deep relaxation.
Liz knows Yoga practice to be profoundly transformational and seeks to share what her teachers have so generously shared with her. Grounded in practical insight and humor, her classes challenge, inspire and awaken students to their true potential.
